COVID-19 Vaccine Update from Jaye Robinson May 28

Here is the latest COVID-19 Vaccine Update from Jaye Robinson:

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

Today, the Province of Ontario announced a plan to accelerate the timeline for second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Starting May 31, individuals aged 80+ will become eligible to book an earlier appointment through the Provincial booking portal. Those aged 70+ will become eligible in the week of June 14. After, the Province will shift to a “first-in, first-out” strategy where eligibility will be determined by the date the first vaccine dose was received.

Groups who are already eligible for second doses at a shortened interval will remain eligible going forward. You can find a breakdown of the planned sequencing in the image below:

The Province has noted that getting an earlier second shot is optional – those who have already booked a date for their second dose can choose to keep their original appointments.

This means that anybody who has registered through the Provincial portal will not lose their appointment, and no individuals will be automatically given an earlier appointment for their second dose. If residents choose to register for an earlier second dose through the Provincial booking portal, their original appointment will be automatically cancelled.

Eligible residents can book a first dose appointment at one of the City’s immunization clinics through the Provincial booking portal or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Information Line at 1-833-943-3900. Residents can also continue booking first dose appointments at hospital and health partner-run vaccine clinics through the VaccineTO booking and registration portal. For more information on second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, please see the Province’s news release.

As of May 25, over 65% of Toronto residents have received their first dose, with over 2,000,000 vaccines administered in the City.

I hope that you and your families are keeping safe and well.

Warm regards,
